Altered Journal~~

Posted by Maya Ariffin |

Good morning everbody! I'm so sorry for our long absent. Today I want to share with you how I altered my journal as you can see in my personal blog.

Step 1:
This is how my journal look like before i altered it.

Step 2:
Then I covered it with strip of crepe paper (any light colour will do, if you have white crepe it will be much better). Make sure you covered both front & back cover. I wanted to use my Mod Podge but I left it at my parents home (at that time I was at my hubby's place). Instead I improvised by using my trusty white glue :)) which never fail me ;) You have to wait for it to dry.

Step 3:
After it dry you have to repeat Step 2. So you have 2 layers of crepe paper. Make sure you covered both front & back cover.

Step 4:
Paint gesso on it after it completely dry. I used Claudine Hellmuth Gesso. Make sure you covered both front & back cover. The reason why I used gesso, because we will need to paint it after that.

Step 5:
I painted it blue. I used Making Memories Acrylic Paint (my favourite).

*Make sure you also put crepe paper on it's back (just a layer is enough). So you have back to back layered with crepe paper (the front cover & back cover).

Step 6:
I forgot to take picture of this step..*ouch* Anyway before you embellish it, you have to pull the excess crepe paper toward the edge of the journal (pull along the back cover too). Don't forget to put glue as you roll & scrunch it. Then I painted it with Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabber in Gold (also my favourite paint). So the edges will look like embossed but no it's textured :)

Step 7:
Ready to embellish!!

Back cover, I just make a simple one ;)

Thanks for looking. I hope this tutorial help you in altering your journal. :)

Have a good day.

Rough Edges on your layouts?? How??

Posted by Maya Ariffin |

Helloooo.... Wow!! It's been a long time I abandon this blog... Sorry my dear readers... :S

Anyway, I was asked by a new scrapper about how to do the rough edges on the paper?? As she noticed on my latest layouts, I distress the CS. :)

So, here I'll show you the tool that you need for distressing CS or even PP.

Edge Distresser by Heidi Swapp
Cute isn't it?

Tim Holtz
For masculine feel ;)

Making Memories
This is what I have :)

If you don't have any of the above tool, you can use.....
~
~~
~~~
Scissor!!
Step 1
You rough the edge of your desired PP/CS. But make sure you know how to apply the pressure. If your PP/CS is thin & soft, you need to put a very light/soft pressure. If the PP/CS is thick then you can apply a little bit pressure.. I suggest you try it on a scrap of unused PP/CS (yes, the leftover please..), then you can see the difference between every PP/CS that you're going to distress. Am I using a simple English here? LOL..
Step 2
After you have the desired effect, it's already done! Or if you wanted to make it a burn look to the edges, you can inked it with dark or natural colour. Or you can inked it with fancy colour, it is up to your creativity.
Easy, isn't it? Hope this simple steps will help you a lot.
That's all for now, thanks for reading. :)
Paper Piercing
Posted by Renee |
There was some confusion during the last crop session I had with Maya and Hsiao Ling about paper piercing. From the words itself it is assumed that you pierce holes into the paper and some say you cut out the shapes or pattern from patterned papers or card stocks and assemble the pieces to form another shapes or patterns.
To clear this up, I found the definition for it when I was reading my new brand Papercraft Inspirations February 2010 issue.
It stated that, "Paper piercing simply involves cutting out separate shapes of paper, often using templates, and layering them up to form a larger design. The pieces don't make much sense on their own, but combined they make wonderful motifs for your cards." [Extracted from p.90 of Papercraft Insipirations February 2010 issue]
Here are some sample of paper piercing that I have incorporated in most of my layouts (I love paper piercing).
The right voice
Posted by Suzila A |
Hi all! Apologies for such long silence from my part. 2010 has been partly occupying my time. Well anyway, here's some tips to a writing, especially for bloggers out there :)
Now, when you write in your blog, you've gotta decide who you think you are talking with: is it simply implying the content for you to let go of your feelings? Or are you sharing your day or thoughts in it with your readers?
The tips are, when you are "talking" to your readers, it's necessary to use the voice "you" so your readers know that it's them you are talking with. Of course you use "I" or "me" as showing that you are "involved" in that writing, especially when you are giving your opinion or suggestions or random ideas.
Now, how do you deliver thoughts in your writing? Let me share how I do mine. I don't particularly use any pronouns, unless the anonymous party introduced carries a gender in particular. I usually use anonymous subjects as "one" or "someone" or even "somebody", followed with the appropriate pronouns according to gender. I use "thing" or "this" or "that" to apply to objects in my writings.
Nevertheless, surely you can include the pronoun "you" in between, especially when you intend to involve or include your readers into your thoughts. For example:
* I once came across a scene when someone carefully sneaked in a bottle of perfumed talcum into his jacket. Nobody seemed to notice, but me. I looked around but my mum was too far away with her trolley of our shopping lists. When I turned around, the man with the black leather jacket was walking away, zipping it up covering what seemed to be the thing he had just stolen.
Here I used "I" and "me", involving me as the writer as well as the character in my story. Other characters are my mum and a stranger, introduced as "someone" and later on as "he", "his" and "the man". Now, shall we see how you as the reader is included in my story here:
* Have you ever encountered such experience? I was little, about 9 or 10 at that time. I remember the feeling. I was scared and unsure of what to do. What would you do if you were in my shoes? Having such emotions, I guess you would do the same as I did; keeping it silent and let him go leaving the store.
So, how do you feel reading the second part now? Were you answering those questions while reading it? If you did, then, you were part of my writing :)
There you go! Keep those words coming and yes! Involve your readers in your up-coming writings :)
Altered Mini Tin~
Posted by Maya Ariffin |
Hi our dear loyal readers. :) It's time for a new tutorial. :) A tutorial of an altered mini tin.
Ok here are the items you need to alter the tin:
Scissors (a basic scissor should be okay, but if you have pointed tip scissor, then better use it).
Glue, glue & glue.. (Any white craft glue will do. If you have Mod Podge, it will be much better. Oh yes glue dots, if you don't have any glue dots, you can use double sided tape).
Pattern Paper or if you don't have it, you can use wrapping gift paper.
Ribbons.
Buttons & flowers.. (If you want to add other embellishments, you're welcome).
1- You'll need to cut the PP(pattern papers) to cover the tin.
2- Then glue the PP into the tin.
3- After that you'll need to cover the PP with the white craft glue/Mod Podge as a seal. Wait for the glue to dried up.
4- After it dried up, then you can embellish it with ribbons, flowers, buttons & other embellishments you desired.
5- Voila!!
Here is the picture of before & after altered tin.. :)
Hope you'll enjoy in altering the tin.. After you alter the tin, you can either make it as a gift or for storage. Like I did, I put my sequins & beads inside the altered tin!! :)
P/s: You're welcome to send your pictures of before & after altered tins. I'll post it up in this blog ;)
Nutella's Spoon anyone??
Posted by Maya Ariffin |
Hi dear readers. Thanks for your patience & understanding... :)
Okay, Nutella's Spoon anyone?? What is the main use of this spoon?? Of course to eat the Nutella chocolate itself ;) But can you think other uses of this spoon?? Well, I did!!
I was in the middle of making a layout of my daughter, then I wanted to apply some rub-ons... Unfortunately, I didn't bring any stylus!! Not even the wooden ice-cream stick!! Argghhh!!! I really need a stylus.... I looked around the messy desk (yes, messy as in messy hehe) & found this little spoon!! This little spoon is my saviour!!! I tried & used it & it was a perfect alternative to a stylus! I'm amazed... So if you can think of other items that can be use other than it's sole purpose, please do share it here.
Next time when you eat Nutella, please spare the spoon, a Nutella's spoon can serve as a stylus. ;)
Thanks for reading :)
Paper Flowers..
Posted by Maya Ariffin |
Hi people!! I'm sooooo sorry!!! I've been busy with school works (oh yes VERY BUSY *sigh*....) Anyway, these are the things that we need to make the flowers.
1-Scissors (with scallop edges, zig zag edge, etc....)
2-Craft knife
3-Strips of PP (patterned papers)
4-Flowers
5-Pins (it can be the simple one or even the one that are sold in craft/scrapbooking stores)
6-Brads
Cut the PP into 4 pieces of your desired length & arranged it into flower petals. Then when you are satisfied with your flower arrangement, cut at the center of the flower using craft knife.
Lastly, embellish it!! You can either put a brad in the centre or you can put flowers & pin.. The imagination is up to you!! Very easy & simple right?? Instead of buying this flowers, you can make one which is cheaper!! Hehehehe...
Thanks for looking & have a great weekend. :)
